Stubai Alps Horseshoe Hut Trekking
Day-to-Day Itinerary:

Part 1: Three Days
From Oberberg via Bremer Hut, Nuernberger Hut, Sulzenau Hut, Dresdner Hut to Neustift - Eye to Eye with the Glaciers of the Divide of the Alps.

Day 1:
Meeting in our Hotel in Neustift, Stubai Valley (Austria). Trip briefing, distribution of rental equipment and dinner with the guide. (Air port pickup in Munich (2.5 hrs drive) or from the train station in Innsbruck available (30 min).

Day 2:
Taxi ride to the Gschnitzer Tal to the hamlet of Obertal. First along a paved road through forest and cow meadows for lunch at a nice mountain lodge. Finally, the trail turns narrower and leads steeply through lush mountain forest to a high plateau with several lakes. From there gentler and above tree line to the rustic, but newly renovated Bremer Hut at 2413 m (7915ft). 9 km (5.5 mi) distance with 915m (3000ft) uphill climb, 5 hrs.

Day 3: Trail hike with some cable protected rocky sections across the steep pass of the Simmingjoechl 2764m (9070 ft.) with great views of the glaciated peaks along the divide of the Alps. Descent on the west side (again some rocky sections with cables) to the Nuernberger Hut (2280 m = 7480ft), a very comfortable and spacious lodge with showers available!
5km (3 mi), 350m (1150') climb, 600m (1970') descent, 5 hrs.
Note: In the afternoon optional short, but challenging via ferrata right behind the hut for the restless in the group.

Day 4:
Steep climb up an exposed path (sections with fixed cables) to the great view point of the Maierspitze 2800m. Descent, at first equally steep on a narrow trail (fixed cables in some places). The terrain mellows out and we pass through alpine meadows and lakes below the impressive Freiger Glacier to arrive at the Sulzenau Hut (2190m) for lunch. In the afternoon along the side morraines of the Sulzenau Glacier to the Peiljoch 2672m and descent to the Dresdner Hut 2300m (7540') and descent by Gondola to the Mutterberg Alm in the Stubai Valley. Taxi or Bus ride to Neustift for a night in our Hotel. 10km (6.5 mi), 1020m (3350') climb, 670m (2200') descent, 8 hrs.
Note: This day offers a lot of options: Easiest would be a direct descent to the valley from the Nuernberger Hut (2 hrs), the longest would be too climb the Summit of the Troegler instead of going over the Peiljoch from the Sulzenau Hut to the Dresdner Hut (adds two more hours).

Part 2: Three Days
Neustift via Franz Senn Hut, Regensburger Hut, Desdner Hut back to Neustift - through the quieter Section of the High Stubai Alps

Day 5:
Partly a rest day with an afternoon start. Short taxi ride to Oberriss and casual 1.5 hrs hike to the Franz Senn Hut 2150m (7050') - the largest and best equipped lodge in the Stubai.
Note: This day also lends itself to split the group and for those who are very fit, we would offer to do the traverse to the Franz Senn Hut from the Kreutzjoch 2100m (6888'), which is reached from the town of Fulpmes by gondola. 2 hours hike to the Starkenburger Hut 2237m (7340'), and from there 7 hrs to Franz Senn Hut - a long day - only for the fittest in good weather!

Day 6:
Beautiful trail via the Schrimmennieder 2715m (8900') with a short side trip to the Basslerjoch 2830m (9280') for the views down to the Regensburger Hut 2290m (7510') 6.5 km (4 mi), 700m (2300') climb, 550m (1770') descent.
Note: In the afternoon optional ascent of the Knotenspitze 3085m (10120'), which offers great views and involves some via ferrata scrambling.4 hrs round trip.

Day 7:
Long day! After passing by the Falbesoner Lake steeply into the Grawagrubennieder 2881 (9450') - possibly involving some snow or glacier ice. After traversing two lower saddles and eventually passing the Mutterbergsee, we'll arrive at the Dresdner Hut 2300m (7550').Gondola ride down to the Mutterberg Alm and taxi or bus ride back to our hotel in Neustift. 11km (6.75 mi), about 1000m (3300') climb and descent.

Day 8:
Departure after breakfast. Transport to Innsbruck Airport or Train Station (30 min) or Munich Airport (2 hrs) available for a surcharge. Alternatively, why not add on one of our via ferrata treks in the Dolomites.

On a custom trip basis, we offer 2 day extensions for this itinerary on either side of this itinerary:
