Hut-to-Hut
Hiking / Trekking Dolomites, Day-to-Day Itinerary:
Part 1 - Ortler Range:
Day 1: Flight into Munich/ Germany. Pickup at the Airport possible.
Drive via Garmisch-Partenkirchen into Austria and on to South Tyrol/Italy,
with beautiful views of the mountain scenery of the Bavarian and
Tyrolian Alps. Arrival in the quaint mountain town of Sulden, lodging
in a B&B.
Day 2: Equipment check in the morning. Hike to the Hintergrat Hut
(2.5 hrs), which is beautifully located underneath the north face
of the Koenigspitze.
Day 3: Beautiful panorama trail via the Tabaretta Hut to the Payer Hut
(4 hrs), one of the oldest and most spectacularly located huts in
the Alps.
Day 4: Long day: Descent down to Sulden, lunch in town and in the early
afternoon, we'll take a cable car ride and a 3.5 hour hike across
the Madritsch Pass to the Zufall Hut (Rifugio Nino Corsi). Showers!
Day 5: Hike up the Cevedale Glacier and ascent of the Suldenspitze (3250
Meters = 10660 ft), 6 hrs. Descent to the Casati Hut (approx. 3100mt)
for the night.
Day 6: Early morning start and climb of the Monte Cevedale - the highest
summit of the trip (3700 m = 1240 ft) and tremendous view point
across the huge glaciers of the range. Return to the Casati Hut
and descent back to Sulden. Lodging in a B&B.
Part 2 - Western Dolomites
Day 1:
(Day 7, for guest particpating in the entire trip)
Travel Day: Drive through the beautiful Vinschgau region with
a short sightseeing stop in Bozen/Bolzano (Provincial Capital of
South Tyrol) and on to Wolkenstein (Selva) in the Groednertal (Val
Gardena).
Guests can either join or leave the trip at the train
station in Bolzano (hourly
connections north to Innsbruck and Munich and south to Milano, Venice
and Rome) or in the Val Gardena.
Late afternoon chair lift and short hike to the Regensburger Hut
with a beautiful view of the Langkofel (Sasso Lungo).
Day 2 (Day 8): We hike on to the Schlueter Hut, high above the Villnoes
Valley (the home of Reinhold Messner). In the afternoon, we have
the option to climb the Peitlerkofel via an easy Via Ferrata, which
gives us a beautiful view of the central divide of the Alps.
Day 3 (Day 9): A long day. We descend through beautiful forests into
the Gader Tal (Alta Badia), where we will have lunch in an old village.
With a good carbo load we continue to climb back up again to the
Puez Plateau and on to the Groedner Joch. Lodging in the Groedner
Joch Hospiz (showers!)
Day 4 (Day 10): Early morning start for our traverse of the huge Sella
Plateau. Via the steep Val Setus (Alternatively Via Ferrata Pisciadu)
we will climb up to the nicely located Pisciadu Hut (3hrs). We continue
on to the Piz Boe (3100 m), one of the highest peaks in the Dolomites.
Lodging at the Sella Pass.
Day 5 (Day 11): From the Sella Pass we take a cable car to the Langkofel
Scharte (i.e. notch), descend via the Langkofel Hut to the beautiful
high pastures of the Seiser Alm. We spend the night at the Tierser
Alpl Hut.
Day 6 (Day 12): Today we traverse the spectacular Rosengarten (Catanacio)
Range. After a short descend we will climb up to the Vajolet Pass
with an excellent view of the Vajolet Towers and descent to the
Fassa Valley. Return by Bus to the Groedner Tal (Val Gardena), Lodging
in a bed and Breakfast.
Day 7: (Day 13) Departure after breakfast. Drive back to Munich via
Brixen/Bressanone (hourly train connections south and north), the
Brenner Pass and Insbruck back to Munich. Airport drop off possible.
