Spring Skiing Frenzy, 6
Days.

Ski
Touring in the Colorado Frontrange
| Program:
Why
slog up and down the scree fields of Colorado's 14000er peaks in the summer heat,
when you can enjoy them on skis or a board in spring? By Mid-April, when the winter
winds have ceased and the snow pack has settled, it is time to venture into Colorado's
alpine terrain to ski the famous corn snow- and there is lots of it! We'll
start this trip in the afternoon of the first day to prepare for the trip, check
and adjust equipment and do an avalanche beacon exercise. From there on, it will
be a strenuous touring day every day, starting out with the classic beginner's
14er - Mount Bierstadt (14060 ft/). After that, we will tackle Grays Peak (14,270
ft.) and Torreys Peak (14,267 ft.) - two ski touring jewels in the Front Range.
Highpoint of this trip will be the roof of the Colorado Rockies, Mount Elbert
- a two day trip, that requires overnight camping (could optionally be done in
one very long day from the trailhead too). Except
for the night before the Mount Elbert ascent, we will be staying in cozy B&Bs.
The peaks targeted are conveniently located between one and three hours drive
from Denver International Airport.
